REASONS
The surge in female enrolment in distance learning programs during
the pandemic in 2020-21 was attributed to factors like the closure of
regular colleges, lack of employment opportunities, and delays in
matrimonial plans.
The delay in matrimonial plans due to pandemic restrictions played a
role in the initial rise in enrolment. Women waiting to get married
might have seen the period of lockdown as an opportune time to
invest in higher education. However, as restrictions eased, the surge
in weddings led to a drop-out among these students.
WAY FORWARD
Addressing Economic Barriers:
Implement targeted financial assistance programs to
mitigate economic barriers that hinder women’s
access to education. Scholarships, grants, and low-
interest loans can make education more affordable
and encourage continuous enrolment.
